Rhode Island Write on Sports

RI Write on sports news!

Rhode Island Write on Sports is virtual again in 2021!

And, continuing our growth and adaptability in our program, which started with 8 students
from Central Falls in our 1st camp at Calcutt Middle School seven years ago, Rhode Island Write on Sports is expanding to Aquidneck Island in 2021!

We are hoping to add students from Newport, Portsmouth and Middletown for our 8th year, joining our students from Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls, Woonsocket, Cranston and other cities!

As always, the camp is free for the middle school students, who will be entering either 7th or 8th grade in the fall.

This year, we will be meeting weekdays from July 6-16, from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Applications are available -- just send an email to Steve Krasner at nudging@aol.com!

This summer' camp will be another step in the growth of the nonprofit organization, hopefully leading to a plan to incorporate RIWoS after-school programs for the school year in 2021-2022!

We are looking forward to another great year at Rhode Island Write on Sports, helping students write feature stories, create videos, participate in interviews and go on digital field trips!

THE RIWoS MISSION

The middle school years are critical times for students, who must attain valuable skills to determine a future path of academic success and growth, and to ensure success on the 8th grade standardized tests.

By strengthening communication, perceptual, and intellectual proficiencies, the Rhode Island Write on Sports program provides a set of skills that can be applied to academic areas beyond sports writing.

The camp follows a detailed curriculum. Students write their own in-depth sports-related feature stories, collaborate to create sports-related videos, participate in model interview sessions, and go on a field trip. Students are guided by an experienced staff. The stories are published in a booklet.
